Drawing from more than two decades’ worth of experience as a writer, editor, reporter, and creative writing instructor, I love to help students at all levels transform their life experiences into compelling narratives through the application of craft and insight.
Established in 2014, Stories For My Future offers individual as well as group coaching in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Ojai, and surrounding areas. In addition, I also offer long distance coaching through Skype & Google Hangouts (or other video technology), combined with email support.
Over the past two years I've partnered with the Santa Barbara Public Library to offer free information sessions to high school students & parents. Additionally, I've partnered with Orfalea Foundation’s REACH program and the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program at Dos Pueblos High School, in order to coach minority and first-generation college-bound students who are seeking to reach their potential.
I'm proud that several of my clients have gone on to secure admission into the school(s) of their choice including:
- University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA)
- UC San Diego
- UC Santa Barbara
- UC Davis
- University of Southern California (USC)
- University of San Diego
- Texas Christian University
- Southern Methodist University
- Oregon University
- San Diego State University
Apart from coaching, I've edited the award-winning anthology, Lost Tribe: Jewish Fiction from the Edge, (HarperPerennial), and my features, essays, and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, Boston Globe, Washington Post, The Jewish Daily Forward, Tablet Magazine, Time Out New York, Lilith Magazine, Brevity.com and elsewhere. You can learn more about my writing and teaching for adults at my author website.
A graduate of Cornell University, I recently completed my Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing at Vermont College of Fine Arts.
